Waterproofing and roofing flashings are important
aspects of the waterproofing and roofing application. If
the roof and waterproofing flashings are not up to
standard serious leaks may occur at those junctions. A
flashing can consist of any material that protects the
terminated roof sheet or waterproofing membrane from
moisture ingress. Waterproofing contractors must insist
on using either a metal flashing or torch on membrane on
parapet up-stands. These metal and torch on flashings
are chased into the parapet wall and cover the roofing
sheet or waterproofing membrane termination. Where
necessary a counter-flashing can be used where the torch
on or metal flashing enters the wall.
The use of inferior products at critical flashing
junctions limits the effectiveness of the overall
waterproofing system. Careful selection of products for
waterproofing flashings and counter-flashings are needed
to ensure long lasting solutions. In most cases the
flashing system used is affected by the waterproofing
solution used on the parapet or gable walls of the roof
structure. The two systems must either be the same, or
they must compliment each other when applied. Anker
Projects have completed many projects that require
flashings and counter-flashings that waterproof roof and
waterproofing membrane terminations to give long lasting
functionality to the overall waterproofing and roofing
